Band vs. DJ: How to Select Entertainment for Your Event

You’ve decided on a menu, rented the necessary décor and have your RSVPs tallied — but you’re still undecided about the night’s entertainment. If you’re debating using a band or DJ to get guests on the dance floor (or just in a good mood), consider these factors:

Atmosphere

If your audience is in tune with the latest hits, a DJ might be the way to go. With a more expansive selection, DJs can choose from a wider range of songs to keep guests dancing or singing along into the wee hours of the night. If dancing isn’t on the agenda, a live band might be more appealing to seated guests.

Cost

Consider your budget; if entertainment is more important to you than décor or a custom menu, a live band might be worth the extra cost. DJs tend to be less expensive than bands and require less equipment and space.

Flow

The bonus of hiring a DJ is that they’re usually trained as emcees to make announcements and keep the evening’s events moving and on schedule. If you haven’t designated a person to do this, hiring a DJ will take that task off of your to-do list.
